Born in London, England Monie Love got her career started in her early teens as an M.C after listening to people like Melle Mel, Roxanne Shante, Big Daddy Kane and Rakim. She is the younger sister of techno musician Dave Angel, and the daughter of a London-based, jazz musician father. She was part of the “Native Tongues” crew which also consisted of De La Soul, Queen Latifah, Tribe Called Quest, and the Jungle Bros. She was featured on Queen Latifah’s single “Ladies First” while still a teen, and was one of the first BritHop artists to be signed and distributed world-wide by a major record label. Monie released 2 albums “Down to Earth” and “In a Word or 2.” She was nominated for 2 Grammy’s one for “Monie in the Middle” and one for “It’s A Shame.” She hosted MTV’s Lip Service and appeared in 2 movies “Strapped” (HBO) and “Who’s the Man?” From 2004 until December 2006, Love was the morning drive host on Philadelphia’s WPHI-FM 100.3. Currently, she has a radio show on XM Satellite Radio called Ladies First Radio with Monie Love. It airs Thursdays 6PM ET and Sundays 8PM ET. Monie is a mother of 4 beautiful children.
