WORTOWN RISING is a documentary by first-time independent filmmaker, musician, and producer Kaz Supernova. It chronicles the first Hip-Hop movement in Worcester, MA, which began around 1979, flourished in the ’80s, and eventually became known as “Wortown.” The story traces the scene’s deep local roots as well as its direct influences from South Bronx Hip-Hop legends DJ Charlie Chase (Cold Crush Brothers) and T La Rock. Featuring never-before-seen video footage, articles, music, photographs, and interviews with over 80 artists whose paths are connected through Hip-Hop.

LIVING PROOF: DR. KHALID’S BLACK HISTORY MOBILE MUSEUM is a short documentary centered on the development of the first mobile museum dedicated to Black history and the legacy of Dr. Khalid El-Hakim aka Dr. Khalid. Dr. Khalid has collected of over 10,000 original and rare artifacts of Black memorabilia dating from the trans-Atlantic slave trade era to Hip-Hop culture. He has been called the “Schomburg of the Hip-Hop generation” and has received national and international attention for his innovative work of exhibiting Black history outside of traditional museum spaces. He has embarked on a journey that spans 43 states, disseminating “our story” to more than 1,000 institutions. Dr. Khalid has also worked for over twenty years in the Hip-Hop industry as a manager and booking agent for artists such as The Last Poets, Proof of D12, Jessica Care Moore, and Professor Griff of Public Enemy. LIVING PROOF documents the difficult journey Dr. Khalid faced to recover artifacts, enter unfriendly communities, and coping with grief. This is an inspirational story of fearlessness, resilience, and living proof that Black history matters.

THE PEOPLE COULD FLY is a poetic documentary about the history of Black gathering spaces in Louisville, KY from the 1960’s to mid 2000’s. Through an intimate video portrait, we delve into the ritual of roller skating and how roller rinks emerged as sanctuaries for Black culture. Through a charged combination of archival footage, still photos, newly shot material and newsreel, we explore the history of a segregated Louisville and the magic that its Black community has conjured as an act of resistance.

CHILDREN OF PARIS follows music artists Kotic Couture, DDm and RoVoMonty on the journey to expand their audience and careers beyond the Baltimore and East Coast scenes. Steeped in the underground scene, these three artist have thrived as queer artist in the segment of society that has a tradition of passing the mic and celebrating diversity. However, they still struggle to gain access to the same widespread fame non-queer hip-hop and pop artist get to experience.

Growing up in the Bronx in the 1970’s, legendary bboy Alien Ness was no stranger to the school of hard knocks. Coming up in the epicenter of hip hop, Alien Ness was inspired by breakdancing and got his start in the industry when he had a chance encounter with another bboy legend, Mr. Wave of The New York City Breakers. Alien Ness garnered a name for himself coming up through the ranks and went on to lead The Mighty Zulu Kings. Under the leadership of Alien Ness, The Mighty Zulu Kings gained a reputation for being one of the most revered bboy crews in breakdancing with established chapters in 10 states and 14 countries.

Legendary breakdancer Alien Ness garnered world renowned recognition for being one of the top breakdancers in Hip Hop History. After being knighted by Afrika Bambaataa to lead The Mighty Zulu Kings, the legendary crew amassed a reputation for being one of the most revered bboy crews in breakdancing. Alien Ness also attributes the success of his crew to the brotherhood that he found in the outlaw biker world. Their influence of family and resilience fueled a fire of fearlessness in The Mighty Zulu Kings that solidified their legacy with established chapters in 10 states and 14 countries.

As a founding member of the world’s most dangerous group, N.W.A., DJ Yella was a technical genius whose skills proved to be a key component in the signature sound of the legendary group. DJ Yella has had a longstanding career that played an integral part in putting West Coast Hip Hop on the map starting with the infamous World Class Wreckin’ Cru, then evolving into the rise and fall of N.W.A., a 13 year porn career and an unfortunate crash into homelessness.

Tony “Mr. Wave” Wesley is a life long Dancer, and has been an Educator for 42 years. Born and raised in the BX, his movement style consists of waving, popping, and ticking… and embodying Hip Hop. As a passionate NYC Breakers crew member, studying the art of “Beat Street” and “Graffiti Rock,” the iconic crew has danced for 3 presidents and even Kings and Queens. He believes that Hip hop has done a lot of wonders for his own personal and professional development and for the world, and that “we can’t be erased!”

DJ Yella, coined the world’s most dangerous DJ, is most notably known for being a founding member of The World Class Wreckin’ Cru and N.W.A. DJ Yella began DJ’ing as a teenager in a local club called Eve After Dark where he met Alonzo Williams and Dre Dre. DJ Yella along with Alonzo Williams, Dr. Dre and Cli-N-Tel formed the group The World Class Wreckin’ Cru where they recorded their most notable hits “Surgery” and “Turn Off the Lights”. Once World Class Wreckin’ Cru dismembered, DJ Yella joined Dr. Dre, Eazy-E MC Ren and Ice Cube and formed the group N.W.A. The group went on to record hits such as “Boyz-N-The Hood”, “Dopeman” and “Straight Outta Compton”. Once the group dismembered, DJ Yella and Eazy-E went on to record “Str8 off tha Streetz of Compton” which would be Eazy-E’s final album before his untimely passing from A.I.D.S. After Eazy-E’s death, DJ Yella lost his passion for music and channeled his energy into directing pornographic films which spanned 13 years after his departure from music. After suffering a sudden financial hardship, DJ Yella managed to get back on his feet when he dedicated his life to Jesus Christ. His Christian faith helped him rediscover his passion for music. Currently, DJ Yella tours the world DJ’ing at world renowned venues and events.
