Zulu King Jason “Phatz” Kirkman has been a Hip Hop culturalist representing Hampton Roads Virginia
for over 30 years. After practicing most of the elements, “Phatz” found his purpose to become a Hip-
Hop scholar, historian and teacher as a former member of The Universal Zulu Nation Chapter 30.
Ch.30’s program E.R. C.A.M.P. – which teaches the culture of Hip Hop – is their crown achievement.
As Chapter Leader, Phatz was able to collaborate with The City of Virginia Beach and The Clever
Communities in Action non-profit organization for three summers and organized an eight week
camp. These experiences inspired Phatz to write a book entitled “Offstage”. He also wrote a
corresponding syllabus and aspires to be a professor of modern culture with an emphasis on Hip
Hop.
